Feeling Better, Being Busy

Thank you to everyone who reached out to me yesterday.  I am still playing catch up with everything.  I took a break form everything yesterday.  Mostly.  I did no social media or phone (Mom will be upset as a I turned the phone off).  I rested and read more Terry Pratchett.  That being said I still did dishes (three times… no four.  If I let dishes sit we get ants), trash went out, laundry got put away, plants got watered, front yard got mowed.  I had planned to do the back yard as well but I got an email from the paper asking me to cover a meeting last minute so I showered and attended the meeting.

I’m not sure what today holds.  Poor Chris was up around 9am.  For the day.  He only has to get through tonight and he has the rest of the week off.  He has more than earned it.  It will be fun to see how far he can get with the project bike this week.  I have been taking photos as he progresses.  I’m not sure what we will do with them but we’ll see.  I have a few ideas.   One thing I do need to do is read more in my camera book.  I am getting frustrated with not being able to get the rich colors of our sunsets and when I try to photograph the moon it turns out fuzzy.  Not crisp like it looks in the view finder.  Soooo I’m sure there is something to do about it that I don’t know.

The sky is cloudy today but it is still warm.  After all the full sun intense heat of yesterday this is a welcome reprieve.  I will need to get out and do my thing out on the deck instead of staying inside.  I can pile all my books and such in a bag and head out there once I finish this.

I hope to make the new puppy treat recipe today.  I still haven’t made any for the kids.  They have not seemed to mind much.  Atleast I have all the ingredients.  I will let you know what they think of it.  These will be the first ones since Moose was diagnosed with kidney disease.  Speaking of which he goes in on the 10th of July for a recheck.

I am in need of sitting down and figuring out what I need to do with my writing as well.  The newspaper is a nice steady but there are other projects that I am missing out on due to procrastination.  So a list needs to be made and priorities need to be made.  And followed through on.  And on that determined note I will sign off and get things moving here.  Thanks for reading!  Stay safe!

Butterflies and Writing

As I write this everyone is up.  Chris has gotten up because allergies.  The kids are up and about because Chris is up so that means that they don’t have to be quiet.  Meanwhile I am trying to do this (for once I am on time) but the dogs are insisting that I play because Chris is up.  Stella has gotten the hint and has gone outside to lay in the sun with her ball.  Essie and Moose have gone into Chris’s office with him.

I read through all of the current issue of Poets and Writers and am currently going through the current issue of Writer’s Digest.  I seem to be supplementing with various research books on werewolves.  I’m not sure why.  That is what seems to have pull for me right now.  So maybe I will incorporate this in the short story?  I hadn’t intended to but it might be a good spin to put on s cursed village.  I’ll keep reading and writing and see what happens.

Dad and I had a nice talk yesterday.  I had to hang up with him because my phone kept getting hotter and hotter.  I am hoping if I replace the battery all will be well.  I don’t want to get another phone.  So for now I will keep an eye on the phone.  I have to get the Jeep in for repairs first.  Hopefully Tuesday or so I will be able to get it in.  Chris’s truck is supposed to be done Monday.

I am afraid to turn the AC on.  It was making weird noises last night so I turned it off.  I is on most of the time either as a fan or for actual AC.  We could be down to no AC (which is bad with the dogs) and no dishwasher.  Luxuries to be sure but the AC is what I am most concerned with because of the dogs.  It can get very hot in the house even with the windows open.  None of them enjoy water other than to drink so putting out the kiddie pool that we had for Minion won’t make a difference.  And there is only so much ice that can be made at a time.

We had a monarch butterfly in the yard yesterday.  So that makes three different kinds of butterfly.  I need to get a reference so I can tell the difference instead of just by color.  I know that there is a butterfly that is similar to the monarch but the pattern on the wings is slightly different.  I always enjoy learning stuff like that.  I wasn’t able to get many pictures but I got a few.

I’m going to wrap this up.  I need to get to the grocery store for things for dinner.  I will download a few photos before I go.  I am frustrated with the monarch photos because whenever I pressed the shutter button the photos would go out of focus. Thanks for reading!  Stay safe!  I hope you have a great day!

Making the Most of It All

This is another late one.  It seems that it doesn’t matter when I go to bed I can’t seem to get enough sleep.  Yesterday I did a lot of weed pulling.  A LOT.  Probably 6 or more great big wheelbarrows full (I am guestimating here as I hauled everything in bunches and dumped them with my arms).  I enjoyed it even if I was dripping in sweat by the time I was done.  I could see a huge difference.  And even when I said I was done I went out and would pick at it.  Oh look!  I didn’t see this patch that need to be cleaned!  That kind of thing.

I also was finally able to get some pictures of butterflies one the milkweed.  Every time I tried before the butterfly would leave.  I have the same problem with the birds.  I think they are slowly getting used to the camera so when I do pull it out it doesn’t freak them out and they leave.  I will share some of the butterfly shots on here today.

I just got my paperwork for renewing my driver’s license as well as tabs for both the motorcycle and Jeep.  I have the choice to do things online, via the mail or make an appointment to go in person.  It is weird to have them pushing do things without going in.  Normally there is next to no wait at the Secretary of State office here.  But I get it with the COVID-19 issues.  I’ve not decided which I will do yet.

Eeew… that last sip of cold coffee tasted like fish.  Blah!  Spit!  Spit!  Gah!  Big drink of water to get that taste out of my mouth!

Moose has his follow up appointment for his kidneys on the 10th of July.  It will be nice to be done with vet visits for awhile.  Which reminds me I have to get their monthly meds soon.  The 7th is the next dose.

WordPress is acting wonky (doing things like moving the cursor back to the top of the screen at random times) so I am going to wrap this up.  I hope you have a great day!  Thanks for reading!

Cleaning Up

Stuff has been steady here.  I have slowly been chipping away at major cleaning projects.  The other day I managed to get the disaster of a stove top cleaned.  Today will be vacuuming, cleaning the mouse cage and snake cage.  I may take a stab at the windows too.  They are pretty easy with hot water and soap.  Since I have dog faces pressed against them a lot of the time I don’t use stuff like Windex.  I found that plain hot water and soap actually cleaned my windows better and no streaks.  And no sick dogs from chemicals.

I am proud of myself for making a consistent effort at this.  I have never been very good at keeping house.  A lot of it is because I am not good with having to clean up everyone’s mess all the time.  My own sure.  Other people’s I don’t mind once in a while but when messes are made and left and I am expected to clean up not so much.  A lot of that comes from working retail.  People are pigs in the dressing rooms (I remember cleaning up piles of clothes off the floor and chairs as well as people using fitting rooms as bathrooms and piling clothes on top to hide it or just smearing things on the walls).  I honestly will not miss that.  However that has created a certain bias in me that makes me not do housework if I am the only one doing anything.  That has changed since I am not working mind you.  It doesn’t irritate me as much.  Only if I bust tail to get things clean and within minutes of finishing it is dirty again.

This is the first year the dogs have been really good about bringing toys back inside if they take them out.  When I mow I don’t have to go out the day before to pick up toys.  I am very grateful for that.  I’m not sure why this is the way it is.  I’m just glad that it is that way.

I do need to clean up the coffee table that I use every morning to write this.  It has been a while and things have gotten dusty and piled up with things I am not using to write.  As I look around the room I see stuff I am saving for no real reason that can be tossed.  Like the bag that Dante’s ashes came in.  It’s been sitting on a pile of blankets and pillows for over a year now.  I need to get rid of it.  His ashes are on the fish tank.  I still feel guilty about his death.  I need to get rid of things that are just here and not doing anything (nor will they be used for anything).  Goals!

I see that I have blathered on for a bit longer than usual.  Feel free to sent any cleaning tips or rants my way.  Thanks for reading!  Stay safe!

Keepin’ It Real

The day had dawned sunny and stayed that way.  the dogs have been rotating outside to lay in the sun then come in and lay in front of the fan to cool off.  Then head back out.  So I think I will be spending the day outside myself.  I do need to make some pico today though.  I told Chris he’d better savor the tomato taste as it cost $20 for the bag of tomatoes (I got some for the recipe and also for eating on sandwiches).  I about fell over when they rang them up at the store!

I got my absentee ballot for August’s election here.  So all I need to do is sit down and do my research on the various selections on the ballot.  I’ll probably do that either tomorrow or Saturday.

Yesterday I managed to get the backyard mowed and trimmed (the front doesn’t look that bad so I decided to do it either today or later this weekend), dishes done and laundry done.  I need to put laundry away but that won’t take very long.  I also was able to swap out the soapy water soaking Chris’s carbs from the project bike.  Hopefully they are clean enough.  I also discovered that we really do need a dishwasher.  Ours tried to flood the kitchen last night.  Thankfully I caught it in enough time.  So next week we’ll be looking at replacing it.  The question is do we go new or used.  I think new because it will have a warranty but Chris thinks that we should do used because of our hard water situation.  We have well water that is very hard.  Sooooo…. I have researching for them.  I guess we’ll see.  Since he is dropping his truck off today to be repaired if we go with new delivery would be included.  But that’s just me.  Like I said we’ll see.

I spent a lot of time taking pictures yesterday.  I will need to download some of them from the camera to post on here.  I apologize for the duplicates yesterday.  It is difficult to tell which I shared on here and which I did not.  That being said I’d better get to downloading them because that takes a good 10 minutes or so depending on how many I download.  Thanks for reading!  Stay safe and have a great day!

*ed. note:  The camera battery doesn’t have enough juice to send the photos to my phone so I can upload them on here so I will post this and add the photos later today or maybe in a separate post today.

Looking For a Rhythm

The sun was out for a bit but now we are back to the cold grey skies and rain.  I do see blue sky here and there.  The temperature is supposed to hit 70F (21C) today.  I know I am looking forward to it.  Not a big fan of fall weather in the middle of my summer.  I also need to empty the excess water from the potted plants.  Again.  I’m sure I’ll be mowing this week as well but that I don’t mind.  The joys of having a riding mower. 🙂

The meeting last night was another long one.  But I find it interesting to listen and watch the process of local government.  Chris teases me about how much I’ve picked up since starting with the paper (in a good way).  As a kid my friends and I would go sit in on the court cases then go home and do our own.  We would rotate who was judge, prosecuting attorney and defense attorney.  We really had fun with that.  One year it was most of our summer.

I was able to get some more writing done on my new story yesterday.  So far so good!  I am struggling not to get lost in the details.  Things that I can look up later to clarify or change.  I am just trying to get the story all down first.  I know I will get lost in the research on this one.  lol  Too interesting to let myself just look up this or that.

I can’t seem to stop yawning this morning.  One cup of coffee is not going to help.  Moose keeps looking at me hopefully to see if I am done since I spent so much time on here this morning with the article then this.  So I suppose I had better wrap this up and get them outside to play a bit.  Hopefully the weather does warm up as promised (the furnace has actually gone on a few times since last night).  The kids and I are tired of being stuck inside all day.  I hope you have a great day!  Thanks for reading and stay safe!

Rainy Day Activities

Yesterday turned to rain by the time afternoon arrived.  It’s been raining ever since.  I am glad because we need the rain.  Not necessarily this much but…  Today we will probably end up inside again.  I did get out to take some photos and I threw many toys over the course of the day but it’s not really the same as hanging out.  I do need to empty the excess water from my many jars out there.  The rain is slowly drowning the plants growing in them.

I’m not sure what I will do with myself.  I want to get some more writing done but I got up later enough that I may not have enough quiet time to do so.  And I think I may have stalled myself out again.  If I talk about my writing too much it takes away from the process.  It’s like using a pressure cooker to write.  When you keep lifting the lid to peek in to see how things are cooking you lose pressure and it won’t cook right.  Every time I talk about it I am lifting the lid.  The flip side of that is I can be held accountable because others know that I am writing and will ask about it.  It is very much a catch 22.

I finally got my current issue of Poets and Writers yesterday.  I read that until I fell asleep last night in bed.  The rain is stop and start.  I can’t seem to stop yawning.  It is such a lazy day that when I pause in my typing Moose is still asleep.  Normally he will hear the pause and look to see if that means I am finished.

Tonight I have a long meeting to cover.  So I will have to set an alarm to get up to make sure it gets finished in time.  I try to have the article written so that it is ready when they arrive at 9am.  Wednesday is when they pull the paper together to be sent out to the printers.

I will add some photos from yesterday and put the post live.  Our milkweed is growing soooo well this year!  And we have our first monarch caterpillar.  The milkweed is beginning to open so I am on the look out for the caterpillars.  They are the only ones that eat the milkweed.  It makes them taste bad to that the birds don’t eat them.  Well thanks for reading and stay safe!

Another Beautiful Summer Day

The sun was out.  The clouds seem to have rolled back in.  And that is fine with me.  I got started on another story yesterday so after get as much as I could on paper I went and worked in the gardens.  I will probably do the same today.  I need to go get kibble for the girls and canned for Moose.  I will call the vet to see if they sell the canned food there.  I’d rather save the $20 coupon for the bag of kibble when I order it.

I kept the kids busy yesterday so everyone was ready for bed by the time the sun went down.  I have been trying to do some kind of exercise every day.  Yesterday I got Chris to try the hula hoop that I got.  I did it too to show him I wasn’t any better at it than he was.  We both had a good laugh.  I try to do about 15 minutes or so a day with it since I can do it while I watch tv at night.

The marinade I threw together for the steaks I got turned out awesome!  I made a yogurt pie as well.  A very simple recipe that I got from my Grams.  Graham cracker crust, small tub of Cool Whip and two fruit at the bottom yogurts (it has to be the fruit on the bottom stuff… and if they are tiny like the current Yoplait size get three).  Just mix up the yogurt and then mix the yogurt into the the Cool Whip.  Put it all in the crust and refrigerate until firm. Voila!

I am feeling rather restless this morning.  I will probably take atleast Moose with me to the store.  I need to get Essie another frisbee so I won’t do the curbside pick up this time.  I may splurge and get the kids some toys too.  They never last long but they make the kids happy while they do last.  I think I will wrap this up and try to get out the door and back before Chris gets up.  I hope you have a great day!  Thanks for reading and stay safe!
