A Small Town Christmas

Yesterday was a success for the kids.  Even the weather cooperated.  The donations for the toys was exceptional and there were a large amount of warm weather wear donated for the kids as well.  Even if they showed up with no gloves or coat they were coaxed over to the boxes to pick something out.

There was Christmas music, a small choir who would sing, hot chocolate, hot dogs, and cookies to eat.  A huge bonfire was lit to keep everyone warm.  Families walked around chit chatting waiting for Santa to arrive.  And arrive he did.

In the distance was the faint jingle of sleigh bells.  As the sound grew louder you could see the orange of the small tractor pulling a sleigh.  In the sleigh sat Santa happily waving to everyone.  Soon after all the kids were lined up to sit in his lap and tell him what they wanted for Christmas.

The event lasted from 1pm until 4pm.  Kids played in the snow making snowmen and having snowball fights.  If they got too cold they would go get some hot cocoa and stand by the fire.  But within a few minutes they were back giggling and laughing in the snow.

I am grateful that everything was a success.  They put a lot of hard work into it.  There was even a sleigh ride for a quarter.  For a few hours families could enjoy the holidays instead of wondering where money for the next bill was going to come from.

I need to get ready for work. Have a great day!
