Baking Bits of Happiness

Yesterday was a whirlwind of activity for me.  Once Chris got up I showered and then headed out the door to the store for supplies.  I made puppy treats the day before and now I decided to try the new scone recipe I found (it had been lying around on the counters for days) and also to make sugar cookies so I could use my new and cool rolling pin.  This rolling pin has Egyptian hieroglyphs carved into it.  (I have a plan to see if the person who made the rolling pin actually used the hieroglyphs as words or not.  I will let you know what I find.)

The sugar cookie dough got made first as it had to chill in the fridge for atleast an hour.  Once that was done I made the scones.  I picked blackberries to put in but I had to wing how much fruit to put in because the recipe gives suggestions on what to add but not quantity.  I also added a generous amount of cinnamon because I always put cinnamon with blackberries.  (The recipe was from the Spring 2019 Nexus The Northwestern Michigan College Magazine, Volume 3 Issue 1, pgs 30-31)

Once the scones were in the oven I pulled out the sugar cookie dough and got going.  It was a bit hit and miss with the new rolling pin as you need to have a certain thickness so that the dough doesn’t stick in the rolling pin.  Then there was the lack of suitable cookie cutters.  I suppose I could’ve gone with just circles or some such but I did not.  Too boring for me.

I happily put the dough back in the fridge between batches of cookies.  But again I had to keep an eye on things because of the thickness of the cookies.  So ended up thinner than others and thus cooked faster.  But all in all I think everything turned out rather well.

So that was pretty much my whole day.  I got the kitchen cleaned up between batches so once everything was done and cooled so was I.  I bagged up the cookies and scones and ran the dishwasher (I am soooo grateful for that dishwasher!).  The sugar cookie recipe is from my copy of Betty Crocker’s Cooky Book, page 18.

And that, ladies and gents, was my day.  I was pooped by 6:30pm.  Between batches I also ran round and played with the dogs to keep them happy.  I hope you had a productive day as well!  Cheers!
