Looking in the Furry Shadows

It is warming up here.  Our high will be 30F instead of -30F.  This is a welcome change!  I spent a few hours (yes hours) on apply and testing for a job yesterday morning.  I do another round of testing on Tuesday.  So we’ll see.

According to the news our groundhog Phil did NOT see his shadow (in my opinion with all those cameras and lights around he’d have to be blind not to) so we will have an early Spring.  One news source followed this up with “his usually wrong.”  So why do we do this every year?  What is the appeal?  Atleast he is a pampered marmot!

When I looked up “what is a groundhog?” I found many interesting things.  Such as groundhogs are essentially big ground squirrels and can be highly destructive (there were many ways to get rid of them).  They are not related to gophers (I’m sure the golfers are happy) and their family name,  Sciuridae,  means “shadow-tail.”

Anyone else remember the rhyme: “How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?  A woodchuck could chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.”  (Trying to try that is worse than trying to say it out loud!)  Well that is about groundhogs.  Same little furry creature.

After the tongue twister I will leave you to it.  Good luck!
